UK News Lens

Privacy Policy

How UK News Lens handles visitor data, newsletter signups, analytics and contact enquiries.

UK News Lens is a headline discovery and news comparison website. We aim to collect as little personal data as possible and we do not sell personal data.

Who we are

UK News Lens is operated as an online information resource. For privacy enquiries, please contact us through the contact page or by email if an address is provided on the site.

Information we collect

When you browse the site, basic technical information may be processed through server logs, analytics tools, cookie consent tools and security systems. This can include IP address, browser type, pages viewed, date/time and referring page.

If you sign up for the UK News Lens email digest, we collect your first name and email address. We also store a consent record, including the date/time of signup, the consent wording shown, the page used, a hashed version of your IP address and your browser user agent. This helps us evidence consent and protect the signup form from abuse.

Newsletter and email digest

The UK News Lens digest is optional. We use your first name and email address only to send UK News Lens emails and closely related updates about the project. We do not add you to unrelated marketing lists for other businesses.

Newsletter signup uses a consent checkbox and may use a double opt-in confirmation email. You can unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe link in an email or by contacting us.

Lawful basis

For the newsletter, we rely on your consent. For basic site security, server logs and essential technical processing, we rely on legitimate interests in operating, securing and improving the website.

How we store newsletter data

Newsletter data is designed to be stored outside the public website folder where hosting allows. If the host does not allow that, the site falls back to a server-blocked storage folder with direct web access denied. The storage location is not listed in robots.txt because robots.txt is public and is not a security control.

How long we keep data

We keep newsletter data while you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we may keep a minimal suppression record so that we do not accidentally contact you again. Server logs and analytics data are kept only as long as needed for security, reporting and site improvement.

Sharing data

We may use trusted technical providers such as hosting, analytics, email delivery and security providers to operate the site. These providers only process data as needed to provide those services. We do not sell personal data.

Your rights

You can ask to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, or withdraw newsletter consent at any time. You can also object to certain processing or request restriction of processing where applicable.

Cookies and analytics

The site may use cookie consent tools, analytics and tag management. You can control cookies through your browser settings and, where available, through the site's cookie banner or consent controls.
